Jarrett’s Story for the Surf City Half Marathon

January 3, 2011 Leave a comment

Jarrett Steinmetz has been in the cheering section, watching his cousin Brian participate in half marathons and triathlons, and now wants to do his own half marathon. His family selected Huntington Beach because it provides familiar surroundings and the terrain is better for a first time.

Jarrett’s first walk occurred August 2008 when he joined family members in the LA AIDS WALK 10k, for which he raised $250 prior to the event. His interest in walking, and helping various causes, was sparked by his Aunt Singrid, a trauma nurse, and cousin Brian, a PST, both competitors in the 2007 LA Marathon.

The next month he participated in Newport Beach’s Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5k., which was followed by the Thanksgiving 2008 Long Beach Turkey Trot 5k.

He participated in the Donate Life 5k in 2009 and again in 2010, in memory of his Grandmother.

Jarrett will be running as a member of team “We Never Give Up Hope”. His family selected Huntington Beach because it provides familiar surroundings and the terrain is better for a first time.

In addition to running, Jarrett has helped with open houses and tours run by his grandfather, Tom Pickett, at the old Santa Ana Courthouse. He is also the youngest member of the Orange County Historical Society.
