Updated the Calendar of Events

February 8, 2012 Leave a comment

Updated the calendar of events for the next few months. We are planning on doing the Donate Life 5k as we have done for the past few years and we are planning on completing the Beach Cities series now consisting of Long Beach, Huntington Beach, and Orange County. Staying more local this year from all the traveling last year. We are planning to do a few more 5k’s and 10k’s this year because of the expenses of last year, those aren’t all added yet. We’re still considering which ones to do, possibly the Coaster 5k at Knot’s. Keep checking if you want to know or feel free to email us if you want to participate with us.

We’re Finally Back and Doing Better than Ever

August 23, 2011 2 comments

The last post that we put up was on pacing and the benefits of slowing down. On behalf of the team, I would like to apologize for such a long time in posting, I noticed the last update was on April. A lot has happened and I’m excited to give updates on what’s been going on. Some new goals, some new planning, and a lot of new energy to finish up the year.

I’m not sure if this is going to happen or not but I’m excited to give a few updates on some tips that I’ve picked up since then. The team is doing great, we’re gearing up for a few half marathons next year already and we’ll announce those soon enough.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck out the wait and look out for updates in the near future.

Jarrett’s Story for the Surf City Half Marathon

January 3, 2011 Leave a comment

Jarrett Steinmetz has been in the cheering section, watching his cousin Brian participate in half marathons and triathlons, and now wants to do his own half marathon. His family selected Huntington Beach because it provides familiar surroundings and the terrain is better for a first time.

Jarrett’s first walk occurred August 2008 when he joined family members in the LA AIDS WALK 10k, for which he raised $250 prior to the event. His interest in walking, and helping various causes, was sparked by his Aunt Singrid, a trauma nurse, and cousin Brian, a PST, both competitors in the 2007 LA Marathon.

The next month he participated in Newport Beach’s Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5k., which was followed by the Thanksgiving 2008 Long Beach Turkey Trot 5k.

He participated in the Donate Life 5k in 2009 and again in 2010, in memory of his Grandmother.

Jarrett will be running as a member of team “We Never Give Up Hope”. His family selected Huntington Beach because it provides familiar surroundings and the terrain is better for a first time.

In addition to running, Jarrett has helped with open houses and tours run by his grandfather, Tom Pickett, at the old Santa Ana Courthouse. He is also the youngest member of the Orange County Historical Society.

Happy Holidays and a Great New Year from Team WeNGUH

January 2, 2011 Leave a comment

We’re sorry we took so long to wish everyone a happy holidays (Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or any other holidays that aren’t mentioned). We were a little tied up with school, work, the actual holidays themselves, and a few medical mishaps.

Here are some posts were proud of to remember year (these are in no specific order):

But as they say its better late then never so, on behalf of the entire team, we would like to wish everyone a belated Happy holidays. We hope they were relaxing and you didn’t eat too much sugar or drink too much egg nog. And if you did, that’s what New Year’s resolutions are for.

We would also like to wish everyone a great new year. We said that last year and the year before that and look what happened but maybe this will be the year that it all turns around. Even though you’re technically supposed to make resolutions before the new year, remember to keep your resolutions realistic. Doing less is a lot better than doing more and deviating too quickly.

Walking two minutes a day can lead to walking half an hour a day. Eating one less M&M can lead to eating only one M&M when they come up. Exercising well and eating better is hard. So keep it simple and easy.

On behalf of the team, we would like to thank everyone for their support now and over the years. We really do appreciate it. Thank you.

LA Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon: Team WeNGUH Providing Information for the Upcoming Event

October 21, 2010 1 comment

When I first started these half marathons it was always hard to know where to get information and updates so I just wanted to quickly provide a few updates. We have some new people coming with us to the inaugural LA Rock ‘n’ Roll event so hopefully this makes it easier for them and for anyone else participating and checking out our website.

Race Information

Event Updates:

Fun Stuff

Competitor Wireless is a service that will update family and friends by text to say where you are at the race. I did a free promo with another company for the Long Beach Half Marathon and it was really cool. It was nice to get the updates and then have others text you or call you during the race to say, “Good job, keep going, you’re doing great!” It’s also nice to get the official time you crossed because the timers can be confusing. This is not an advertisement for CW and it does cost a few dollars but the amount of money it costs for the race, this is worth it. I won’t be using it but I encourage others to try it.

We hope these few links help you out before and during the race and thank you for continuing to view updates from our team members. We appreciate it and we hope to see you at the race!

TriRock: Announcing Entrance in First Triathlon

September 1, 2010 Leave a comment

It’s a little late in the game to be announcing that I am participating in the TriRock triathlon hosted by Competitor, the same people who made the Rock ‘n’ Roll running series. It’s the inaugural San Diego tri and it’s the kick off of the entire TriRock series. Kind of neat to be participating in the start of all the events to come.

I’ve been telling a few people about it and luckily some of the people that I know have either done a few themselves or know people that have or know something about one of the three parts. Everyday for a good two weeks I was learning knew things that I had to buy that were necessary to do the event. I learned how to do a few strokes, mostly freestyle and breast stroke. I know them poorly at best though, my technique is way off but that’s to be expected with only a few days to learn it. Thankfully, someone was letting me use their pools they worked at and taking a few minutes to teach me what to do or I would have been doing an even less efficient way than I am now.

In training so far my best is roughly 2300ft in the pool, I did a 26 mile bike ride from my college and back, and I’ve done a 65 minute run at a little over 4 miles, this isn’t all in the same day though. I think I have enough endurance to be able to do it but I feel like I’m going to be dead tired doing this, especially at the end of it. I think it’s going to be hard to walk afterword for a little bit which is going to make it hard to get around to my classes if they’re back to back. But I think I have enough of what it takes.

I hope I do have enough because I’ve used a little over $300 of other people’s money for this event, family and friends sponsoring financially and some of their time. If it wasn’t for my grandpa, I would be sleeping in my car before the event. If it wasn’t for Kevin, friend, I would probably have drown in the swim portion, definitely wouldn’t have made it.

Team WeNGUH Meets WordPress

August 27, 2010 1 comment

We began with blogger which makes an easy to post blog that can be up and running in minutes. Though, they only allow ten pages per blog and we wanted the option to put information of events to people and showcase member profiles.

With WordPress we will have the option of each member having their own page to show their friends, family, and co-workers. This is very exciting since this was the main reason for creating our team blog/website.

We’re still working on designs, layouts, and a few kinks with member profiles. However, stay tuned, we have a lot in the mix. A little preview, we’re considering creating a photos page to post pictures and slideshows and members will soon have the option of posting about their racing events.
