Irvine Half Marathon Medal

I would like to personally congratulate all the organizers of the Irvine ½ marathon. My son participated in the 20th annual event this year and enjoyed the course.

I drove him to the event and was at the finish line to see him come across. He came up to me and showed me the medal. A very nice medal and the first medal that ever recognized all the walkers that participated. My friend and I are speed walkers and usually people mention the runners and very seldom the thousands of walkers. Thank you for that!

I would also like to congratulate the Southern California Half Marathon and 5K organizers for recognizing and mentioning the walkers who participate in racing events. To mention just the runners might not seem like a big deal but a lot of the walkers work just as hard if not harder to get a good time, keep pace, and everything the runners are doing. So, when cheers are given and they only say runners or signs are made and they only say runners, they are leaving out a huge portion if not the majority of people who usually do the events that we have participated in. This is the first time we’ve seen an event recognize this. It might not seem like a big deal but it’s one of our favorite medals because of that.
